Security tip of the month

Tip

Staying safe from impersonation attempts

Impersonation scams are a growing threat across our industry. Fraudsters may pose as Lightspeed representatives to trick businesses into sharing sensitive information or moving funds.

Learn more about recognizing and responding to impersonation attempts to help protect your business.

  • Lightspeed will never:
    • Request your PIN, password, or verification codes.
    • Ask you to move funds or change your settlement account to an unfamiliar account.
    • Ask you to keep a security matter confidential from family members or law enforcement.
  • Know the signs of fraud:
    • Slight misspellings or unusual characters in sender email addresses.
    • Urgent, threatening, or high-pressure language.
    • Requests to move funds or process refunds you were not expecting.
  • Stay vigilant:
    • Be cautious of emails, calls, or texts from unfamiliar or unknown senders.
    • Avoid clicking unexpected links or attachments, especially to unfamiliar login pages or financial institutions.

If you receive a communication that seems suspicious, do not engage or share personal information. Always verify through trusted sources or contact Lightspeed directly via Retail POS.

Remember: If something feels urgent, unusual, or unexpected, pause before acting and verify directly through official Lightspeed channels.
