When you sell your catalog online with Lightspeed eCom, you can create a discount that will apply for your shipping methods. Free or discounted shipping makes purchases feel like a better deal for customers, encouraging them to buy more.
When creating a promotion, you choose what shipping methods to discount and specify the discount amount either in percentage or absolute value. For example, you can offer VIP clients free USPS delivery for orders over $300 and at the same time give shoppers 50% off on local delivery for all orders.
How shipping discounts work in eCom
Shipping discounts are applied when a customer selects a shipping method at checkout. In case you have any other promotions in your store, they will be applied first and will combine with the shipping discount.
Shipping discounts are flexible to set up. You can:
- Create different discount values. For example, offer free shipping or just 10% off.
- Create different discounts for different methods. For example, 50% for UPS Express, 60% off for UPS regular delivery, and 70% for FedEx.
- Limit discount by cart total. Customers will need to reach a certain amount before they can get free shipping.
- Schedule a time period for a promo to run.
- Select customer groups to apply the discounts to. Please note that shipping discount works only with customer groups created in your eCom admin. So you first need to create a customer group on the Settings → Customer groups page in your eCom admin and then assign a discount to a specific group.
Setting up shipping discounts in eCom
When you set up a discount for a shipping method, customers will see a highlighted label at checkout indicating the offer:
To set up a shipping discount in your eCom store:
- From your POS, go to Online and click Go to eCom.
- In your eCom admin, go to Marketing → Promotions.
- Click Create promotion.
- Select Free shipping for specific shipping methods and click Next Step.
- In the Discount value field, specify whether you want to change the price in percentage or in the absolute value. Then enter the value.
- Select one or several shipping methods with discount.
- Click Next Step.
- (optional) To create a schedule for sale, in the Limit by active dates field specify when you want to start and end the sale. Discount will only apply during the specified period.
- (optional) To make a discount available for certain customers only, click Limit by customer groups and choose one or several groups.
- (optional) To make promo available for orders over a specific sum, click Limit by cart total and specify the amount.
- Click Create and launch or Create without launch. Discounts created without launch can be enabled later manually from the Promotions page in your eCom admin, or they will begin automatically on the date that you specified.
Each new discount you create appears on the Promotions page in your eCom admin where you can view its status, edit, enable or disable it.
Editing shipping discounts in eCom
All shipping discounts you create are stored on the Marketing → Promotions page in your eCom admin.
You can edit the discount so that each promo or sale fits your current business needs. For instance, you can change the start and end date for the Black Friday discount, considering its annual variation.
To edit discounts in your store:
- From your POS, go to Online and click Go to eCom.
- In your eCom admin, go to Marketing → Promotions.
- Find the discount you want to edit and click on it. To speed up search, use filters.
- Make changes to the discount settings.
- Click Save.
Enabling or disabling shipping discounts in eCom
On the Promotions page in your eCom admin, you can turn on and off each discount you created. That comes in handy for quickly running sales throughout the year since you don’t have to set up unconditional discounts from scratch. You can edit the discount before turning it on.
To run a sale at a certain time in future, you can schedule the sale period so that discounts are automatically applied at a certain day and time.
To enable or disable discounts in your store:
- From your POS, go to Online and click Go to eCom.
- In your eCom admin, go to Marketing → Promotions.
- Locate the discount. Use filters to quickly find a discount or several discounts.
- To disable or enable discount, click Actions and select Disable promotion or Enable promotion.
- (To change discounts in bulk) Select discounts you want to change, click Mass Update, and choose to disable or enable selected.
- Click Save.
