Your terminal will immediately connect to the Internet and will remain charged through the dock.

If you want to remove the terminal from the dock, you'll need to make sure the terminal is connected to your Wi-Fi network.

The Smart Terminal will prioritize an Ethernet connection when possible. Even if previously configured for Wi-Fi, the reader will switch to an Ethernet connection when connected to the dock with a plugged-in Ethernet cable. If the reader is removed from the dock, it will switch back to the Wi-Fi connection.

The Smart Terminal resets its priority to Ethernet when rebooting. Even if the terminal was previously configured for Wi-Fi, the reader will switch to Ethernet if it detects an Ethernet cable connection while starting up.

If the reader is docked but there is no Ethernet cable plugged in, it will use Wi-Fi. Regardless of how it is connected while docked, you can still choose to connect to Wi-Fi and manage networks on the device.

Using the Smart Terminal as a customer-facing display

  • Some payment terminal display features are currently in beta and may not be available in your account.

Customer-facing displays give you a secondary screen for your Retail POS system, displaying real-time transaction details to your customers. They can also interact with the display for payment and to opt into marketing emails.

For merchants with Lightspeed Payments, your Smart Terminal will automatically function as a customer-facing display when using Retail POS on a web browser. To turn this function off, contact Support.
