Connecting the Smart Terminal to the Internet
The Smart Terminal requires an Internet connection to process payments. It can be connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
-
Connecting the Smart Terminal via Wi-Fi
To connect the Smart Terminal (WisePOS E) to Wi-Fi:
- Open the settings menu by swiping right from the left edge of the reader screen to reveal a Settings button.
- Tap the Settings button.
- When prompted, enter the admin PIN 07139.
- Select Wi-Fi Settings.
- Select the Wi-Fi network that your Retail POS is connected to.
- This will also automatically generate a pairing code that will be used to pair your terminal with Retail POS. Make note of this code to be used later.
Your Wi-Fi network must use WPA-Personal or WPA2-Personal encryption and be password protected. Non-password-protected networks or enterprise networks are not supported.
- Open the settings menu by swiping right from the left edge of the reader screen to reveal a Settings button.
-
Connecting the Smart Terminal via Ethernet
To connect the Smart Terminal (WisePOS E) to the internet via Ethernet:
- Place the Smart Terminal into the supplied Ethernet dock.
- Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into your router and the other end into the Ethernet port on the dock.
- Plug the USB-C side of the USB to USB-C cable into the USB-C port, located next to the Ethernet port on the dock. Connect the USB end to a powered USB port.
- Turn the terminal on by holding the Power button on the right side of the device until the screen turns on.
- On the terminal, open the Settings menu by swiping right from the left edge of the reader screen to reveal a Settings button.
- Tap the Settings button.
- When prompted, enter the admin PIN 07139.
- Select Generate pairing code. This will be used to pair your terminal with Retail POS, so make a note of this code to be used later.
Your terminal will immediately connect to the Internet and will remain charged through the dock.
If you want to remove the terminal from the dock, you'll need to make sure the terminal is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
The Smart Terminal will prioritize an Ethernet connection when possible. Even if previously configured for Wi-Fi, the reader will switch to an Ethernet connection when connected to the dock with a plugged-in Ethernet cable. If the reader is removed from the dock, it will switch back to the Wi-Fi connection.
The Smart Terminal resets its priority to Ethernet when rebooting. Even if the terminal was previously configured for Wi-Fi, the reader will switch to Ethernet if it detects an Ethernet cable connection while starting up.
If the reader is docked but there is no Ethernet cable plugged in, it will use Wi-Fi. Regardless of how it is connected while docked, you can still choose to connect to Wi-Fi and manage networks on the device.
- Place the Smart Terminal into the supplied Ethernet dock.
