Tip

Watch out for fake calendar invites

Did you know that scammers can bypass email spam filters by adding invites with malicious links or attachments directly on your calendar? These unexpected invites, also known as "phantom meetings", use your trust in calendar tools to trick you into sharing private information.

Keeping your calendar secure

  • Don't click the bait: If you receive an unexpected or suspicious meeting invite, don’t click any links (including Join or Cancel) or open any attachments. These may lead to fake login pages designed to steal your credentials or install malware on your device.
  • Report and remove the invite: In your calendar, click the suspicious event and look for options to Report as spam or Mark as junk. Reporting can help improve spam filters and may reduce similar invites in the future.

Google Calendar option to report meeting as spam.

You may not receive an invite notification email, but if you do, you should report it as phishing.

Stay cautious, your calendar is just as important to protect as your inbox.
