Understanding Lightspeed AI
Lightspeed AI is a reporting data analysis tool that translates your complex data into clear, actionable opportunities. With Lightspeed AI, you can get a better understanding of how to translate your business performance and trends into scalable growth.
You can use Lightspeed AI to:
- Gain insights into brand and product performance.
- View inventory data for specific products or groups of products.
- Identify seasonal trends you can use to inform your inventory decisions.
- Understand staff performance.
- Compare sales data from different periods.
- Analyze customer and customer group purchasing trends.
Lightspeed AI is available to use with inventory and sales reports only. Only Admin users can access Lightspeed AI.
Lightspeed AI example prompts
If you wanted to know how products and brands are doing you could ask:
- “What were the top three best selling shoes last month?”
- “Which brand sold the most last month?”
If you wanted to investigate inventory turnover and you could ask:
- “Have any products not sold at all in the last two months?”
- “Which products have the highest inventory turnover?”
If you wanted to know about customer purchasing habits you could ask:
- “Which customer group purchased most frequently last month?”
- “Which customer group is the most profitable?”
If you wanted to know more about staff performance you could ask:
- “Are my staff meeting their targets?”
- “Which of my employees has the highest sales volume?”
Lightspeed AI will then generate a report showing the answer along with insights into what the data might mean for your business and what actions you could take.
Using Lightspeed AI
The use of this forecasting tool is at the user’s own risk. Lightspeed cannot guarantee the accuracy and reliability of the insights generated. Actual results may differ. The tool is provided for informational purposes only and should not be considered as financial, investment, or legal advice. Users are encouraged to exercise caution before making business decisions based on the tool’s output.
To start using Lightspeed AI:
- Navigate to Reporting and select any inventory or sales report.

Click Lightspeed AI. The chat window will open on the side.
- Enter your prompt and Lightspeed AI will use your historical inventory or sales data to generate the answer. For example, “What were the top three best selling shoes last month?”
- (Optional) Select a suggested follow-up prompt or ask your own follow-up question to refine the data further. For example, “What about women’s shoes specifically?”
- Click View report details to show the data Lightspeed AI used to generate the answer.

Click View report to have Lightspeed AI generate an inventory or sales report about the data. You can then send or save the report as needed.
Managing chats
You can continue chatting in the same window or start a new chat anytime by clicking the New chat dropdown and selecting Start new chat. Starting new chats for different prompts can help you keep your conversations organized by topic and allows you to find data based on specific reports.
You can view and return to your previous chats by clicking View history from the dropdown. Click on a conversation to view the details or continue the chat on the same topic.
