Hi. How can we help?

Using Pay What You Want pricing for products in Lightspeed eCom

To let customers name their own prices for products in your Lightspeed eCom (E-Series) online store, you can enable the Pay what you want pricing. This pricing option lets you be flexible with the price you are willing to accept for select products, and you can optionally suggest one or several prices to your customers. You can use Pay what you want pricing to sell all kinds of products and services or to accept donations.

With Pay What You Want pricing, customers can only name prices that are not lower than the product price you set in Retail POS (X-Series).

Enabling the Pay What You Want option for a product in eCom

Products with the enabled Pay what you want pricing no longer have a traditional fixed price in your eCom online store. There will be an empty field on the product page where your customers can offer any price that they are ready to pay. The minimum price can be no lower than the product price in Retail POS.

You can additionally provide price suggestions. They will be displayed as buttons with price tags (the “Your value“ option is always available).

To enable variable pricing for a product in eCom:

  1. Navigate to your eCom Admin Panel.
  2. From the side menu, click Catalog > Products and select the product you want to edit.
  3. Click Manage pricing options in the Pricing section.
  4. Find Pay what you want and click the toggle button to the enabled position.
  5. (optional) Click Add fixed price tiers‍ to provide one or more price suggestions.

  6. Click Save.

That’s it! Now you have a product with a flexible price in your online store.

You can create a separate category for all products with variable prices to make navigation in your online store easier and make these products more visible. You can also display products with the enabled Pay what you want option as Related products in your catalog and in the cart. Another way to highlight them is to create product ribbons.

Once the Pay what you want pricing is enabled for a product, you won't be able to set wholesale prices for it or show discounts off your online prices.

How the Pay What You Want option looks on your eCom storefront

There are two special signs that help customers locate products with the enabled Pay what you want option on your storefront.

The first one is the “or more” text, which is added to the price of the product, telling customers that they can either pay the initial price or add something to it.

The second sign is the orange “Free or your own price” label on the product details page. It appears only if the initial price of your product is “0” (and it can be obtained for free). The orange label helps draw customer attention to the product while looking at your storefront:

If you want to change the default “Pay what you want”, “Your value”, “Free or your own price”, and “or more” texts, you can do it with the help of the Store Label Editor that you can access in the eCom Admin Panel > Settings > Edit Store Labels.
