Hi. How can we help?

Setting up integrated and non-integrated payment types

Retail POS will create cash, Lightspeed Payments cards, and other payment method types by default. If enabled, other payment types will appear as standard buttons on your payment page, including On account, layaway, Loyalty, store credit, and gift cards.

Understanding payment types in Retail POS

Integrated payments are payments that Retail POS automatically pushes to the card terminal and receives an approval or decline response back to close the sale.

Non-integrated payments require you to manually enter the payment amount into Retail POS. This payment type can be used for physical payments like a cash or check, or for an external card reader that is not integrated with Lightspeed.

Optionally, you can set up additional payment types in Retail POS:

Adding an integrated third-party payment type

To add an integrated third-party payment type in Retail POS:

  1. Navigate to Setup > Payment types.
  2. Click Add payment type.
  3. From the Payment type dropdown, click Payment gateway.

Payment type dropdown with Payment gateway option highlighted.

  4. Click Begin setup.
  5. Add a name for the payment type.
  6. From the Outlets dropdown, select the outlets to add the payment type to, if applicable.
  7. Follow the steps to pair your payment terminal.

  8. Click Save payment type.

Adding a non-integrated payment type

To add a non-integrated payment type in Retail POS:

  1. Navigate to Setup > Payment types.
  2. Click Add payment type.
  3. From the Payment type dropdown, select Other payment method.

  4. Click Begin setup.
  5. Add a name for the payment type.
  6. From the Outlets dropdown, select the outlets to add the payment type to, if applicable.
  7. (Optional) Enter the external payment gateway URL, provided by your payment processor.
  8. (Optional) Check the Ask for a reference number box to allow the staff to record a reference number, like an invoice number.
  9. Click Save payment type.

If the payment type is a non-integrated card payment, you will need to separately set up your card payment terminal using the directions that came with the terminal.
