Why is my Sales report higher than the Payments report?

Answer

Your sales report may be higher than your payments report because of how sales and payments are recorded in Retail POS. Two situations where this may occur are during On Account Sales or Layby Sales.

  • On Account Sales are immediately added as revenue in a sales report, if there is a partial payment (or no payment) on the on account sale then there will be a difference between the Sales Report and Payments Report for that on account sale.
  • Completed layby sales have their revenue added on the date they were started but the payments may be spread over other days.
