The quick add product modal allows you to quickly create a new product using the minimum information required to create a product. You can later edit your products to add more detailed information.
This is different from the add product workflow and will only be surfaced in certain locations in Retail POS.
Using the quick add product modal
The quick add product modal can be used when you're setting up your catalog for the first time, using the Sell screen, ordering stock, or receiving stock.
Setting up your catalog for the first time
This card is only available to merchants who are have not yet set up their catalog. Once this card is dismissed, it cannot be reopened. You can always add products on the Products page or access the quick add modal in other areas of Retail POS.
- Navigate to Catalog > Products.
- Click Quick add product.
On the Sell screen
For sales that include a product not currently recorded in your catalog, the new product can be quickly added on the Sell screen.
- Navigate to the Sell screen.
- In the Search for products box, enter the name of a product. If the product hasn't been added yet, click + Add 'product' as a new product.
If scanning a product barcode, copy the SKU from the Name field and paste it into SKU, then type in the desired Name of the product.
Ordering stock
To quick add a new product while ordering stock:
- Navigate to Inventory > Stock control.
- Click Order stock.
- On the New purchase order page, click Choose products and then use the Search or scan to add a product search field to enter the name of a product.
- If the product hasn't been added yet, click + Add 'product' as a new product.
Receiving stock
To quick add a new product while receiving stock:
- Navigate to Inventory > Stock control.
- Click Receive stock.
- On the Receive stock page, click Search or scan to add a product.
- Enter the name of a product. If the product hasn't been added yet, click + Add 'product' as a new product.
Once you've started the quick-add process, you can quick add different types of products using the steps below.
Quick adding a standard product
A standard product is a product with a single SKU and its own inventory.
- In the quick add modal, add a Product name. This name will appear in reporting, inventory management, on the Sell screen, and on customer-facing material like barcodes and receipts
- Choose the type of product you want to add.
- Select a supplier from the dropdown.
- Choose a SKU code type and enter a SKU code or leave it as Auto-generated to let Retail POS create a SKU for you. You can also + Add another SKU code if needed.
- Add the Supply price. It's highly recommended to add the correct supply price before adding inventory to the product so cost of goods sold (COGS) can be accurately calculated.
- Add a Markup on the supply price to generate a Retail price, or add a Retail price to generate a markup that aligns with your pricing strategy.
- Click Add product.
Quick adding a product with variants
A product with variants is a group of similar products with different attributes like size or color. Each variant is a unique SKU with its own inventory, housed under a parent product.
A product with variants can have up to 3 attributes and up to 200 unique combinations in total. Each unique combination forms one variant product, for example T-Shirt - Small, Red, Cotton.
- In the quick add modal, add a Product name. This name will appear in reporting, inventory management, on the Sell screen, and on customer-facing material like barcodes and receipts
- Choose the type of product you want to add.
- Select a supplier from the dropdown.
- Select a Variant attribute from the dropdown or enter a new attribute and click + Add as a new attribute.
- Type in an attribute Value and press Enter on your keyboard.
- To add additional variant attributes, click + Add another attribute and repeat the above steps.
- Optionally, click and drag variant names in the Value section to automatically change their order of appearance in the list of variants as well as in your Stock control, Products page, and Promotions page. Note that rearranging variants in this way does not sync across eCom.
- Variants will be created based on the attribute values combinations.
For each variant created:- Choose a SKU code type and enter a SKU code or leave it as Auto-generated to let Retail POS create a SKU for you.
- Add the Supply price. It's highly recommended to add the correct supply price before adding inventory to the product so cost of goods sold (COGS) can be accurately calculated.

Add a Markup on the supply price to generate a Retail price, or add a Retail price to generate a markup that aligns with your pricing strategy.
If the Supply price, Markup, or Retail price are the same for all variants, enter the information on the first variant and click Apply to all.
- Click Add product.
Quick adding a composite product
A composite product is made up of specified quantities of one or more existing standard products or products with variants. They're ideal for multi-packs or product bundles like gift baskets.
You can only use the quick-add modal to add composite products when setting up your catalog for the first time on Catalog > Products. Afterwards, you can add composite products on the Products page.
- In the quick add modal, add a Product name. This name will appear in reporting, inventory management, on the Sell screen, and on customer-facing material like barcodes and receipts
- Choose the type of product you want to add.
- Select whether you want Retail POS to Automatically generate a SKU or Enter a custom SKU.
- Click Next to go to the New product page and configure the composite product.
