- Available in the US, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia.
Merchants using Lightspeed Payments with a supported payment terminal (Wisepad 3, Smart Terminal) can enable tipping directly on the terminal screen for a more streamlined checkout experience.
Tipping via the terminal is only available on the Smart Terminal (WisePOS E) and Retail POS running the most current iOS or desktop OS versions, or the Wisepad 3 and Retail POS running the most current desktop OS version.
Understanding tipping options
Lightspeed Payments allows you to select simple or dynamic tipping options when prompting your customer for a tip.
The Simple tip configuration sets a fixed dollar amount or percentage for all sales processed through the terminal.
The Dynamic tip configuration allows you to set fixed dollar amounts for sales under a custom threshold and percentages for sales over that threshold.
You can also select whether your tipping percentage is calculated After Tax or Before Tax. Some regions require tipping to be calculated on pre-tax amounts. For a full list of regulations, contact your local regulators.
Enabling tips
Tipping on the terminal can be enabled through your settings in Retail POS. Tip settings can only be configured by Account Owners or other Admin users.
To enable tipping on the terminal:
- Navigate to Setup > Payment Types > Lightspeed Payments.
- In the Tipping section, click Add tipping option.
- Select the Outlet where you'd like to enable tipping, then click Next.
