Adding, editing, and viewing products in Lightspeed Scanner (X-Series)

When using the Lightspeed Scanner app, products that are not currently in your Retail POS catalog can be added quickly within the app, without having to return to your office computer. It also lets you add key product data needed to get your product on Retail POS (X-Series) and ready to sell right away.

Adding products

  • Adding a standard product for iOS

    1. In the Scanner app for iOS, tap the Products tab.
    2. Tap Add Product.

    3. Enter the name of the product into the Product name field.
    4. Ensure Standard product is selected.

    5. Tap the Add new image box to add an image to your product. On the menu displayed, select whether you wish to add an image from your Camera, Photo library, or Paste from clipboard, then take, select, or paste the relevant image.
    6. Enter a SKU Code if you wish to customize the SKU. If you wish to scan the SKU directly from the product, select the barcode icon in the field to open your device’s camera. Leave the field blank for the SKU to be automatically generated.
    7. Enter the product Supply price. If you are unsure of the supply price, it is important to obtain and enter this information before creating the product to ensure accurate reporting.
    8. To generate a Retail Price by markup percentage, enter the value into Markup, or simply enter the retail price into the Retail price section.
    9. Tap Save.

      If you opted to have the SKU automatically generated, select Auto-generate Code from the dialog box that opens.

    10. Tap Save again to finish.

    Adding a product with variants for iOS

    1. In the Scanner app for iOS, select the Products tab.

    3. Enter the name of the product into the Product name field.
    4. Select Product with variants.

    5. Tap Add variant.
    6. Enter the Variant attribute, such as Size.
    7. Enter the Value, such as Small. There can be multiple values for each attribute.

    8. If you require more attributes for the product, select Add another attribute and repeat steps 6-7. Otherwise, tap Save.

    9. For each variant you have just created, select the variant to expand and add further details.

    10. Enter an SKU Code, or leave it empty to automatically generate one.

      You can also use the scanner to scan a barcode by tapping the icon, which opens the rear-facing camera.

    11. Enter the product Supply price. If you are unsure of the supply price, it is important to obtain and enter this information before creating the product to ensure accurate reporting.
    12. To generate a retail price by markup percentage, enter the value into Markup, or simply enter the retail price into the Retail price section. If all variants are to have the same Supply price and Retail price, select the Apply pricing to all variants toggle to apply to each variant.
    13. Tap Save.
    14. Once the product information has been added for each variant, tap Save.
    15. Tap Save again to finish.
  • Adding products with Scanner (X-Series) app for Android only supports adding standard products at this time.

    Adding a standard product for Android

    1. Navigate to the Products tab.
    2. To add a new product, tap Add product.

    4. Tap the Add new image box to add an image to your product. On the menu displayed, select whether you wish to add an image from your Camera or Photo library, then take or select the relevant image.
    5. Enter an SKU code, or leave it empty to automatically generate one.

      You can also use the scanner to scan a barcode by tapping the icon, which opens the rear-facing camera.

    6. In the Pricing section, enter the Supply price.
    7. Enter a Markup percentage or fill out the Retail price section. Whichever one you complete, the other field automatically updates.

    8. Tap Save. You'll return to the main Products screen with a confirmation that your product was added.

Editing products

  1. Navigate to the Products tab and search for a product by name or scan the product barcode, then tap the product to select it.

  2. Tap Edit product.

    Once the product is selected, tap Edit in the top right of the screen.

  3. Edit the product information as required.

  4. Standard product images can be added by tapping Add new image and selecting the relevant image from your files.

    To mark an image as the primary image for a product, long-press the image until an option modal opens and select Make primary image.

    To delete an image, long-press the image until an option modal opens and select Remove image.

    Images for variant products cannot be added or edited in Lightspeed Scanner.

  5. To record where your products are stored using product location, tap Add location under Product locations. Enter the Aisle, Row, Shelf, and/or Bin location information and tap Done.

  6. When you're done editing, tap Save.

Edits to product information using Lightspeed Scanner are recorded in Sales history.

Looking up products

  • Looking up products for iOS

    To look up products on your device, navigate to the Products tab. Products can be searched for using either the search products field or the barcode scanner.

    To manually search for products, start typing the product name in the Search products field.

  • Looking up products for Android

    To look up products on your device, navigate to the Products tab.

    Products can be searched for using either the search products field or the barcode scanner. To manually search for products, start typing the product name in the Search products field.

    To use the barcode scanner, simply select this option on the main screen of the Scanner app.

Viewing product information

  • Item main page for iOS

    Here is where you'll find all the information about your product, including how many variants there are (if applicable), total inventory, supplier price, retail price, and more. Tap one of the categories to access more information.

    Overview

    • Inventory: Total inventory across all outlets.
    • Product location: Where your products are located by Aisle, Bay, Shelf, and/or Bin.
    • Supplier price: Purchase cost of the product.
    • Retail price: Amount the product will be sold for.

    Categories

    • Inventory: This section shows how much inventory you have of the item in each of your outlets.
    • Pricing: The pricing section shows the range of the retail price between variants (if applicable). Tap each variant to get that variant's specific pricing information.
    • Details: This section has detailed product information, including brand, type, description, tags, supplier, and supplier price.
    • Serial numbers: If the item has a serial number attached to it, a checkmark appears under this section.
    • Custom field:* *Enterprise plans only. You can create custom fields, such as QR codes or loyalty codes.
  • Item main page for Android

    Here is where you'll find all the information about your product, including how many variants there are (if applicable), total inventory, supplier price, retail price, and more. Tap one of the categories to access more information.

    Overview

Adjusting inventory for write-offs

You can now adjust your stock using the Scanner app to remove inventory for items that are damaged, expired, used internally, or stolen.

  • Adjusting inventory in iOS

    1. Search for your product.
    2. Select Actions.

    4. In the Choose a reason drop-down, select the reason for your adjustment. (Damage, Expiry, Internal Use, Theft, or Donation).

    6. Select Confirm.

    1. Search for your product.
