Adjusting inventory without making a sale
Currently, positive inventory adjustments and custom adjustments (positive and negative) are only available on Scanner for iOS. Custom inventory adjustment reasons need to be created and managed in Retail POS.
Inventory adjustments are used when you need to change inventory amounts without making a sale. This may happen due to:
- Stock found: Discovered inventory that wasn’t previously counted.
- Sample for sale: Inventory that was used internally and is now for sale.
- Damage: Inventory that’s damaged and can’t be sold.
- Expiry: Inventory that’s out of date or must be discarded.
- Internal use: Inventory used or consumed in the course of doing business, which will not be sold to customers.
- Theft: Inventory that’s been lost or stolen.
- Donation: Inventory that’s been donated.
If you’re using Scanner for iOS, you can also add new inventory and make inventory adjustments with custom reasons.
To adjust inventory for a product:
- Search for your product.
- Tap ... (More) on iOS or Actions on Android.
-
Tap Adjust inventory.
- If your product has variants, tap the variant you want to adjust.
-
In the Adjustment reason dropdown, select the reason for the adjustment.
-
In the Adjustment quantity field, enter the number of inventory items being adjusted. Your expected inventory adjustment will display automatically.
- Tap Save.
- Adjust other variants, if necessary. When you’re finished, tap Confirm.
You’ll be redirected to the product’s page.
