Hi. How can we help?

Setting up and managing basic promotions in Retail POS

Offer customizable discounts and incentivize customers to increase spending with the promotions feature in Retail POS. This discounting tool allows you to run in-store and online sales without the need for spreadsheets or manual uploads. Live promotions automatically update to include relevant new products, customers, or outlets as they are added to Retail POS.

Only manager and admin roles have permissions to add and edit promotions.

Adding a promotion

  1. Navigate to Catalog > Promotions.
  2. Click Add promotion.

  3. Enter a name and a short description for the promotion.
  4. Choose which channels the promotion will run on. If you have promotions synced with eCom (E-Series), you can run promotions created in Retail POS online.
  5. Choose which outlets the promotion will apply to. If you select All outlets, any outlets you add during the promotion time period will have the promotion automatically applied.

    and outlets.

  6. Choose the schedule for the promotion:
    • One-time promotion: This type of promotion runs for a specific time period. This type of promotion schedule is best used for end of season or holiday sales, or special promotions that don’t have a specific day or time. One-time promotions cannot be converted into recurring promotions.
    • Recurring promotion: This type of promotion repeats on the same day and time every week. You can choose for it to run all day or between specific hours of the day. This type of promotion is best used for time-of-day promotions like early bird and happy hour specials, or to incentivize increased business on slower days of the week. Recurring promotions cannot be converted into one-time promotions.

  7. Select Basic in the type of promotion section. This type of promotion allows you to set a percentage or dollar value discount on all or specific products.

Retailers on Pro, Lean, Standard, Advanced, Core, and Plus plans can also create advanced promotions.

  8. Set the percentage (%) discount or a dollar ($) discount of this promotion. This discount will be applied to the current retail price of all products included in this promotion.
  9. Specify whether this promotion applies to all products or a specific product set. To include only specific products, click Specific and use the search bar to filter by tag, type, brand, or supplier.

    products.

  10. Select who will be targeted by this promotion:
    • Available to everyone: All customers can receive this promotion.
    • Exclusive to some: Only customers within a customer group, or with a promo code, can redeem this promotion.
  11. Select whether you want customers to earn loyalty on purchases included in this promotion.

    Option
to allow loyalty points to be collected on purchases made during the promotion.

  12. Click Save.

If both a promotion and a price book are active across the same products, customers, outlets, and dates, both discounts will be applied. This means, for example, if a customer group normally receives a 10% discount, applying a promotion for 10% off will result in that customer group receiving 20% off. If you don't want both discounts applied, you must adjust either the promotion or the price book.

Editing and viewing promotions

You can view all your current, upcoming, and past promotions by navigating to Catalog > Promotions and selecting the tabs for Current and upcoming, Past, or All. You can also use the search to find specific promotions.

Clicking on the arrow beside a promotion will expand the details where you can edit the promotion, view products included in the promotion, end the promotion early, or delete the promotion. Deleting the promotion will remove it from your records permanently.

Ending a promotion

Your promotion will automatically end on the end date that you've specified. If you wish to end a promotion that has no end date set, or need to end a promotion earlier than scheduled, you can end the promotion early.

  1. Navigate to Catalog > Promotions.
  2. Locate the promotion and click the arrow to expand the details.
  3. Click End Early.

  4. Select whether you would like the promotion to End Now or Set new end date or time.
    • If you are ending the promotion now, click End Promotion.
    • If you are scheduling a new end date or time, select it from the date picker and click Set end date.

Managing multiple promotions

If you plan to offer tiered promotions or multiple promotions at the same time, by default Retail POS will find the promotion that offers the best deal to your customer. The exception to this is when you have multiple promotions of different types or with different criteria in place, Retail POS will pick the promotion that was set up first.

For example, if you have one promotion for 10% off summer clothing and another for 15% off all t-shirts, the promotion that you set up first will be the one that’s applied to products that qualify for both sales. This means if you set up the 10% off promotion first and someone buys a shirt that is included in both promotions, they will only receive the 10% off discount, not the 15% one.
