CUPS is a network printing service used by Mac computers. It allows you to set up printers on a network, and customize options like a cash drawer setup.
Enabling CUPS on Mac
To enable CUPS:
- Download and install the CUPS driver for Mac.
- Copy the text
cupsctl WebInterface=yes. -
Click the magnifying glass in the top right corner of your Mac and search for
Terminal. -
Once in Terminal, paste in
cupsctl WebInterface=yesand hit enter on your keyboard. -
Navigate to http://localhost:631/printers/ to view your installed printers.

Sign in to CUPS. Your username and password for CUPS will be the same as your Mac username and password. You can check your Mac username in System Settings > Users & Groups.
You can click the printer name to access settings or set up your cash drawer.
Enabling receipt cutting in CUPS
Once a receipt is printed, your printer can be set to automatically cut the receipt from the paper roll.
- After enabling CUPS, navigate to http://localhost:631/printers/.

Click the Printers tab, then click on your printer.

Click the dropdown > Set Default Options.

Click the Paper Cut dropdown > Cut Per Page.
- Click Set Default Options.
