Answer
There are three reasons why you may have duplicate customers in Retail POS.
1. Through Ecommerce Platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce)
There are two ways that customers from your Ecommerce Platform sync to Retail POS:
- If a customer places an order on your Ecommerce Platform, with an e-mail that already exists for a customer in Retail POS the order will fall under the existing customer in Retail POS
- If a customer places an order on your Ecommerce Platform, with an e-mail that does not link to a customer in Retail POS, this will create a new customer in Retail POS
Retail POS will not update customer details changed on your Ecommerce Platform. Any updates made on your Ecommerce Platform to customer fields will not send over to Retail POS after the initial customer creation.
2. CSV Customer Edits
If you are editing existing customers in your Retail POS store using a CSV and the customer code column is deleted, this will create duplicate customers.
3. Adding Customers to the Sell Screen
If a customer already exists in your Retail POS store and comes in to make a purchase, a user might not be able to search for them and could create a new profile for them.
