Order quantity limits allow you to specify the minimum and/or maximum amount of a product that is available per one order in your Lightspeed eCom (E-Series) online store. For example, you want customers to purchase at least 3 croissants in your bakery, or you want one person to buy at most 10 places at a masterclass to avoid reselling.
You can set order quantity limits for individual products and product variants in your store.
Instead of setting order quantity limits, you can set a minimum amount of money for your customers to spend on a single order in your online store.
Setting order quantity limits for products in eCom

To speed up catalog setup, specify order quantity limits for products and variants in bulk.
Setting order quantity limits for product variants in eCom
You can set separate minimum and maximum order quantity limit values for each of the variants your product has.
After you add order quantity limits for individual variants, customers will see values for the default product variant when viewing product pages in your online store. When they select a specific variant on the product details page, the values will be adjusted. If your product does not have a default product variant, order quantity limit values for the base product are displayed at first.
Variants must have unique SKUs before you assign individual order quantity limits to them.
To set order quantity limits for a product variant:
- Navigate to your eCom Admin Panel.
- From the side menu, click Catalog > Products and select the product you want to edit.
- Go to the Options > Variations tab.
- Click the pencil icon next to the variant to edit it.
-
Find the Stock Control block and click the arrow next to it.
- Click Set purchase quantity limits to specify the minimum and/or maximum quantity allowed for purchase.
- Click OK, then Save.
Now, when a customer selects this variant on the product page, they will see the order quantity limit information for it.
How quantity limits work for customers in your online store
After you set minimum and/or maximum order quantity limits for a product in eCom, customers will see a corresponding notice on the product details page in your online store. If a customer tries to add to cart more or fewer units of a product than the limit allows, they will see an error message:
The same goes for the checkout. When in the cart, a customer will not be able to change the number of ordered items to the one not fitting your limits.
If you track inventory for a product or variant and it’s currently in stock but its quantity is below the minimum purchase quantity, the item will appear as “Out of stock” on the online storefront, and customers won’t be able to buy it.
