Hi. How can we help?

Placing a test order in your Lightspeed eCom online store

After you're done setting up your Lightspeed eCom (E-Series) online store, you can place a test order to make sure everything works as expected.

The best way to see your customer’s experience is to place a real order, including payment. For that, you can create a test product with a low purchase price and then check out online using one of the online payment gateways you've set up.

If you want to place a test order without any charges, you can use a manual payment option. In this case, the order will be recorded as Unpaid/Awaiting Payment until you change its status manually.

To place a test order with a real online payment:

  1. In Retail POS, go to Catalog > Products.
  2. Create a product and set the price to $1. Name it Test product so your online customers do not buy it by mistake, and tick the Sell online on Lightspeed eCom box to enable this item for selling online.

When setting a price for orders paid with online payment methods, check the gateway guidelines on the minimum order value. For example, Lightspeed Payments or Stripe require it to be at least $0,50.

  3. Go to your eCom admin panel and make sure the test product does not require shipping, so you’re not charged for delivery:

  4. Open your storefront. You can use the View Store link in the upper right corner of your eCom admin.
  5. Find the Test product and add it to the cart:

  6. Enter your real email and click Checkout.
  7. Select the payment method you want to test.
  8. Pay for the order using real payment details.

You cannot test the PayPal payment method using the same account for the buyer and seller since PayPal does not allow you to buy from yourself. Read more about how to place a test order using PayPal.

  9. Check to make sure the order appears in the My Sales > Orders section in the eCom admin as well as in Inventory > Fulfillments and Sell > Sales history in Retail POS.
  10. Once you’ve made sure everything works properly, you can delete the test order.

Consider getting feedback when building your eCom store. For example, you can ask a friend or staff member to take a look and discuss their experience after shopping in your online store.
