Adding age verification in your eCom (E-Series) online store

If you sell age-restricted products or services, you can prompt customers to verify their age in your eCom (E-Series) store.

Adding age confirmation pop-up to eCom site pages

On your eCom (E-Series) Instant Site, you can enable and customize the age confirmation pop-up in the site editor.

  1. From Retail POS, go to the Online tab > Webstore > Edit Site.
  2. Click Settings > Legal & Analytics.

  3. Enable the Show age confirmation pop-up toggle.

  4. Click Manage Age Confirmation Pop-up to customize pop-up content. You can edit the pop-up title and description, add custom texts for confirm and deny buttons, and manage links on buttons.
  5. Click Publish.

The age confirmation pop-up will now appear on each of your Instant Site pages, including all the online store and catalog pages.

Optionally, you can add the ability to ask for age verification with the help of the apps like Age Verification Pro or Age Verification Popup from Lightspeed eCom App Market.

Asking for age verification at checkout

If you want to ask customers to certify their age when placing an order, you can add the age verification option to checkout.

  1. Publish your terms and conditions and make sure they have the information about age restriction in your store.
  2. Enable asking for explicit consent with your website terms and conditions before buyers make online purchases.
  3. Edit the "I agree with Terms and conditions" text with the Label Editor that you can access in the eCom Admin Panel > Settings > Edit Store Labels.
    For that, you’ll need to enter “I agree with” in the Label Editor search field and replace this text with your own message (e.g., “I confirm that I'm over 21 and agree with”). As a result, the message at checkout will read “I confirm that I'm over 21 and agree with Terms and conditions”.

Once you do so, customers will need to check a box agreeing to T&C and verifying their age before purchasing anything in your online store:

Other ways to ask for age verification

In case you want a solution tailored specifically to your needs, for example a popup or an integration with a third-party age verification service, it might be possible to create this solution with eCom (E-Series) API. You can develop it yourself, hire a developer, or request a paid service from eCom (E-Series) customization team.
