How to fix truncated SKU numbers in Excel

Objective

To fix truncated sku numbers caused by Excel automatically formatting long strings of numbers to scientific notations and removing the leading 0 in CSV files (this issue only occurs with CSV files, if you select XLSX when you first export the file from Retail POS you will avoid this issue automatically).

If you use SKUs like 093986161536118, you will need to change the format of the SKU column when making edits.

Setup

  •  Excel for Mac or PC

Steps

  1. Highlight the SKU column
  2. Right Click > Format Cells
  3. Number > Decimal Place 0

Using the XLSX format will allow you to avoid this problem from occurring automatically.
