The Star mC-Print2 or mC-Print3 receipt printer connects to your network with a LAN cable. Your computer or iPad device connects to your printer through your network.

Setting up the Star mC-Print

Setting up the Star mC-Print for Mac
- Connect the Star mC-Print to a power source using the provided power cable.
- Using an Ethernet cable, connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the back of the printer and the other end to the router.
- Turn the printer on.
Print the Star mC-Print IP address
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Feed button.
- While still holding the Feed button, turn the printer on.
- The printer will print out two receipts, the second receipt will include the IP address at the bottom.
Download the required Star CUPS driver
- Download the latest Star CUPS driver. This is specialized software that allows the printer to run correctly on your computer. To download this, go to the Star Micronics website and click CUPS Driver for macOS.
- Double-click the downloaded file to extract it and navigate to the Driver folder.
- Double-click the Star_CUPS_Driver-4.8.0.pkg file to open the installation window.
- Follow the setup steps at the end and click Restart to finish.
- Once your Mac restarts, you'll be ready for the next steps.
Installing your Star mC-Print
1. Navigate to System Preferences and open Printers and Scanners.
2. Click the plus (+) icon to add a new printer.
3. Select the IP icon (represented by a globe).
4. Enter the requested information:

Address: This is where you need to put in your printer's IP address. To find this you will need to switch the printer off and turn it back on, wait 10-15 seconds until the network configuration slip is printed. Ensure that the ethernet cable is connected to your device and the printer before attempting to print the IP address.

Protocol: Select Line Printer Daemon - LPD from the dropdown.

Queue: Leave this blank.

Name: This is an optional field. If you want to customize the name of your receipt printer, type it in this field.

Location: Leave this blank.
5. Click the Use drop-down and select Select Software...
6. Search for Star using the Filter field and select the Star MCP31 option, then click OK.
7. Once you've put in all this information click Add. Your printer should now be set up and ready to go!
Connecting the cash drawer (optional)
Once you've set up your printer, you can connect a cash drawer.
The cash drawer connects to your receipt printer and is triggered to open when you finish a cash or cheque sale, and the printer prints the receipt.
To set up the Cash Drawer:
1. Plug the RJ12 connector cable from the cash drawer into the receipt printer.
2. Go to http://localhost:631 /printers/
3. Once in CUPS, Select your printer model (Star mC-Print2 or Star mC-Print3) from the list.
4. Select from the drop-down menu Set Default Options.
5. From here, select Cash Drawer Control and choose Open Drawer 1 and 2 under Cash Drawer
6. Click the Set Default Options button to complete.
Your cash drawer should now be all set to go! You can test it by printing a receipt from the Sales history screen. Read the section below for steps on how to do this.
Perform a test print
Now that your Star mC-Print is installed you can start using it to print your receipts in Retail POS.
To perform a test print, follow the steps below:
1. Navigate to Sell > Sales history.
2. Click a sale to expand it.
3. Click Print receipt.
4. Select the receipt template you’d like to use.
This will take you to the print preview screen. If the Star mC-Print is not your default printer, click Change and select the printer from the list.
Once that's been changed you should be able to print out a receipt.

Downloading the printer driver for Windows
1. Go to the Star Micronics website, search for Star mC-Print, and click on your receipt printer model.
2. Under Drivers, select the Star Windows Software Setup EXE File and click to download.
3. Once the driver has finished downloading, run the installer and complete the installation with the Star setup wizard.
4. Using the provided LAN cable, connect the Star mC-Print to your Windows computer.Installing your Star mC-Print
1. On your Windows computer, go to Start Menu > Star Windows Software > Printer Utility program. 2. Select the MCP31 model and click Next. 3. Select Ethernet and click Search Network to find the printer. Make sure the IP address matches your printer's IP address from the receipt. 4. Name your printer and click OK. 5. Click Window Printer Queue Management. 6. Click Add > OK. The printer should now be added to the print queue. You can perform a test print to confirm the connection.Perform a test print

- Turn the printer on.
Connecting your Star mC-Print to Retail POS

Open the Retail POS app and tap the Menu icon (☰). The sidebar will open.

Select Settings > Hardware.

Under Receipt Printers, tap Add a Printer.

A pop-up window will appear. The Find a printer that's ready to add option will search and show printers that are already connected to the network. Your printer will be listed under connected printers. If your printer is not on the network, tap Follow steps to connect and add a printer.

Perform a hardware self-test by following the on-screen instructions and tap Next.
- Select your printer brand.
- Select your printer model.
- Select your printer's connection type and tap Next.
- Follow the on-screen instructions depending on your connection type and tap Add printer once completed.
- Confirm the printer you want to add by selecting it under connected printers and tap Next.
- Your printer is now added and paired with Retail POS. You can choose to rename your printer, perform a Test print, or tap Finish.
Connecting the cash drawer
Once the printer is set up, you can connect the cash drawer.
The cash drawer connects to your receipt printer and is triggered to open when you finish a cash or cheque sale and the printer prints the receipt.
To set up the cash drawer, open up the Retail POS app and follow the instructions below:
1. Tap theMenu icon(☰)to open the sidebar.
2. TapSettingsand chooseHardware.
3.Select the printer you want to attach the cash drawer to.
4.Plug the RJ12 connector cable from the cash drawer into the receipt printer.
5. On the printer settings page in the Retail POS app, toggle the Enable cash drawer setting to On
6. Toggle the Open after cash sale setting to On.
Perform a test print
Now that your Star mC-Print is installed you can start using it to print your receipts in Retail POS.
To perform a test print, follow the steps below:
1. Tap the Menu icon (☰) to open the sidebar and select Sales history
2. Tap a sale to expand it.
3. Tap Print receipt.
4. Select the receipt template you’d like to use and tap Print.
