  • Square offers a Contactless and Chip card reader, a mag stripe reader, and a Square stand (US Only). The Square Reader is the only reader that is supported. Square’s hardware offerings can be differentiated in the various regions in the United States, the United Kingdom, and in Australia.

  • No, the Square stand only works with approved Square hardware. For example, a USB Star printer will not run via the USB port on the Square stand. If you want to use your own hardware, you will need to buy a LAN or Bluetooth hardware device as an alternative.

  • Yes, follow the standard Retail POS return process and the Square payment will be refunded.

  • No, not through the standard Retail POS return process. To process a return for a sale made while trading offline, login to the Square portal and process the return there.

  • The Square - Retail POS integration is currently only available to retailers in the US, CA, UK, and Australia.

  • Tips cannot be assigned to a sale in Retail POS, so Square's tipping feature cannot be used when taking a Square payment in Retail POS.

  • Square cannot be integrated with PC or Mac. It can only be integrated with Retail POS on iPad.

  • Only one Square account can be connected to a Retail POS account. Individual outlets will need to access and use the one Square account..

  • How do I do a manual return on Square?

    Objective

    Return an item that is not tied to an original sale when the customer paid with Square

    Setup

    • Retail POS on iPad
    • Square App 

    Steps

    1. Return the funds to the customer through the Square app using these steps
    2. Add the item the customer is returning to the sale on the Sell Screen
    3. Tap on the item
    4. Tap on the Quantity field
    5. Tap the +- button to make the quantity negative
    6. Enter the quantity to reflect how many items the customer is returning
    7. Tap Update Quantity
    8. Tap the drop-down arrow in the top right corner
    9. Tap Park Sale to park the return
    10. Tap the three line menu button on the top left corner to open the side navigation panel
    11. Tap Dashboard
    12. Tap Sales history
    13. Search for the parked return
    14. Tap the parked return
    15. Tap Apply payment/refund
    16. Select your Square payment type from the 'Payment Type' drop-down
    17. Enter the negative amount of payment in the 'Amount' field
    18. Select the correct register from the 'Register' drop-down
    19. Enter the correct date in the 'Payment date' field
    20. Select the payment time from the 'Payment time' dropdown
    21. Tap Save

    Update the Retail POS App

    Update the Square App

    1. In the App store, search for the Square app
    2. Tap Update to update the app

    Set a location for your Square integration

    1. Tap to open the Retail POS side menu
    2. Tap Dashboard
    3. Tap Setup
    4. Tap Payment types
    5. Tap Square
    6. Enter your Square log in if you are prompted to
    7. Ensure a location is set for each register
    8. Tap Save

    Authenticate your Square account

    1. On your iPad's browser app, go to https://secure.retail.lightspeed.app/ and login
    2. Follow the login steps to complete the authentication
  • How can I take manual payments on Square?

    Objective

    Take a manual payment on Square if your Retail POS and Square app are not communicating.

    Setup

    • Retail POS on iPad
    • Square payments

    Steps

    1. Follow these steps to accept payment on the Square app directly
    2. In Retail POS on the Sell Screen, tap the down arrow in the right hand corner
    3. Tap Park Sale
    4. Tap to open the side menu
    5. Tap Dashboard
    6. Tap Sales history
    7. Find the sale you need to apply payment to
    8. Tap the sale to drop-down
    9. Tap Apply payment/refund
    10. Enter the details for the payment you have taken in Square
    11. Tap Save

  • How do I reconnect Square account to Retail POS (X-Series)?

    Setup

    • Retail POS on iPad

    Steps

    1. Navigate to https://secure.retail.lightspeed.app and login
    2. Enter your username and password
    3. Click Next to confirm your domain prefix
    4. Select Square locations for each register
    5. Click Save Payment Type
  • Which Square readers are compatible with Retail POS (X-Series)?

    The Contactless and Chip card reader, mag stripe reader and Square stand are compatible with Retail POS.

    Additional Information

    USB printers, cash drawers and scanners are not compatible with Retail POS using the Square stand. You will require LAN or Bluetooth hardware devices to connect to the iPad. See our Recommended Hardware page for options.
