Hi. How can we help?

Why is my inventory in Retail POS (X-Series) not matching my Shopify inventory?

  • Available on Pro, Standard, Advanced, Enterprise
  • Available on Core, Plus

Setup

  • Retail POS for Mac or PC
  • Shopify integration

Answer

There are a number of reasons why your inventory won't sync or match with Shopify:

  • The product has been edited on Shopify. This will break the link between Retail POS and Shopify, and stop all product updates.
  • A published product was deleted in Retail POS and recreated on Shopify. This breaks the link between Retail POS and Shopify for the specific product.
  • Rate limiting. The Shopify account can hit a rate limit due to a full inventory count, receiving a large stock order, or bulk editing a large number of product via CSV in Retail POS.

How to resolve products that have been edited on Shopify

Compare the products between Retail POS and Shopify. Additional changes to a product on Shopify can mean that edits were made on Shopify, which breaks the link to Retail POS.

Follow these instructions to resolve the issue:

  1. Unpublish the product in Retail POS.
  2. Delete the product from Shopify.
  3. Publish the product to Shopify.
    • This will restore the product connection
      • Note that following these steps will result in lost variant images and SEO. We recommend creating a backup before republishing the product.

How to ensure large inventory updates sync from Retail POS to Shopify

If you have recently made an update to a large number of products, allow up to 2 hours for the update to sync to Shopify. The request may have encountered a rate limit.

How to review product inventory movements

A great way to identify the cause of an inventory discrepancy is by comparing product inventory movements. Use Retail POS's inventory movements view and Shopify's inventory history to see all movements of a particular product. We recommend opening these pages side by side and checking each movement one at a time. You might, for example, see that you returned an order on Shopify and didn't replicate that movement in Retail POS. This would cause the inventory levels to be higher on Shopify.
