The DYMO 550 and DYMO 550 Turbo let you print product labels through either a USB or LAN connection. You'll need to install the latest DYMO software in order to print. Once that's done, set up and test your DYMO printer.
What you need
Before setting up your DYMO 550 or DYMO 550 Turbo with your Windows PC or Mac, make sure you have the following:
Hardware
You'll also need one of these two cables, depending on how you want to connect your printer to Retail POS:
Supported labels
The DYMO 550 and DYMO 550 Turbo are only compatible with DYMO-manufactured labels. The label printer uses Automatic Label Recognition to display the label size, type, and number of labels remaining. The printer only functions if the correct labels are installed.
Retail POS supports these DYMO label sizes:
- 11352 (1" x 2-1/8")
- 30336 (1" x 2-1/8")
- 30373 (jewelry/rat-tail)
Downloading the latest DYMO software
The DYMO 550 and DYMO 550 Turbo require devices running macOS 10.15 and higher / Windows OS 8.1 or higher.
Before you set up your DYMO printer, you'll need to make sure you're using the latest version of DYMO Connect.
- Go to the DYMO downloads page.
- Choose The Latest Software & Drivers for all LabelWriters and LabelManager dropdown.
- Click the Download button under your device.
- Open the downloaded file and follow the steps in the DYMO Setup Wizard to install the software.
Apple users may be prompted to authorize installation of the DYMO Connect software. If this happens, the terminal window will automatically open. Enter the password you use to log into your device, then press return.
Connecting your printer via Ethernet (LAN) cable
Connecting with your printer via LAN allows you to link to your printer via your local network, so your device doesn't need to be plugged into the printer directly with a USB cable in order to print with it. You can find more on connecting to your printer via your network in DYMO's support documentation.
- Plug the Ethernet cable (not provided) into your DYMO label printer's Ethernet port.
- Plug the other end into one of your router's Ethernet ports.
- Open DYMO Connect from a computer connected to the same network.
- Select File > Add network printer from the menu.
- Follow the prompts to connect your printer.
Connecting your printer via USB
Once the software has been installed, connect your DYMO label printer directly to your computer via the USB cable provided and the power cord to a power supply.
