Hi. How can we help?

Deleting products in bulk in Retail POS (X-Series)

If you need to remove many items at once, Retail POS (X-Series) makes it easy and efficient to delete products in bulk. There are two different methods you can use to delete products in bulk.

Deleting products in bulk using select all

If the items you wish to delete are all of the same supplier, brand, or type, have the same tags, or the same keywords you can use the select all checkbox to quickly delete these products.

  1. Navigate to Catalog> Products.

  2. Filter products by keyword, type, tag, supplier, or brand.

  3. Click Search.

Products page with filter section highlighted. Products are filtered by brand.
  4. Click the checkbox at the top of the list to select all.

  5. Click Choose an action.
  6. From the dropdown, click Delete products.

Deleting products in bulk using a spreadsheet

There are some instances when the items you wish to delete are from various suppliers or brands and aren’t easily filterable. In this case, it is more efficient to edit your product list in a spreadsheet and import back into Retail POS to delete.

To export your product list from Retail POS:

  1. Navigate to Catalog> Products.
  2. Click Export list.
  3. Download the spreadsheet as an XLSX file

It’s best to use XLSX format when working with inventory spreadsheets. Downloading inventory files in CSV format can cause SKU formatting issues.  For more information see Common issues with product spreadsheet imports

To edit the spreadsheet to make products inactive:

  1. Open the spreadsheet in your spreadsheet editing software.
  2. Locate the column labeled Active.
  3. Change the “1” to “0” for every product you would like to delete. This will set them to “inactive”.

  4. Remove the following three columns from the spreadsheet to ensure product inventory for items not being deleted isn't altered:
    • Inventory
    • Reorder point
    • Restock level

  5. Save the spreadsheet.

To import spreadsheet and delete products:

  1. In Retail POS, navigate to Catalog> Products.
  2. Click Import.

Alt text: Products page with the import button highlighted.

  3. Import your file by dragging and dropping or by searching the file location.
Note: The import can take several minutes.

  4. Filter the Channel status drop down by Inactive.

  5. Click Search.

Products page with channel status set to inactive.

  6. Click Delete all inactive products.

Products page with delete all inactive products button highlighted.

Deleting all inactive products will delete any product that is set to inactive on every channel. This means products that were inactive prior to importing the spreadsheet will also be deleted by this action. If you have inactive products you don’t want to delete, we suggest you use the select all method to delete items in bulk.
