Whether you sell online or offline, Retail POS is the source of truth for your products. To ensure that product information is shared correctly on all platforms, you should edit general product information from Retail POS. However, some online-specific settings can be managed from your eCom Admin Panel.
Editing products from Retail POS
General product information is synced from Retail POS to eCom.
To edit general product information in Retail POS:
- In Retail POS, navigate to Catalog > Products and locate the product you wish to edit, using the filters if necessary.
- Click the product to expand and select Edit from the options displayed.
- Edit the information as desired and click Save to apply the changes. To see simplified information with fields relevant to selling products on your eCom only, switch to the Sell online tab.
- When saved, applicable changes will be sent to eCom.
If you wish to make eCom-specific product edits, this will need to be done within eCom.
Editing products from eCom Admin Panel
There are some features you can edit on the eCom side:
- Assigning categories to products
- Adding video to the product gallery
- Adding product ribbons
- Adding product subtitles
- Setting purchase quantity limits for selling online
- Uploading files to sell digital products (music, art, video lessons, etc.)
- Setting up product-specific shipping methods
- Setting up product-specific shipping rates
- Changing the tax rate for a particular product
- Changing the product page title and meta description for SEO (how your website appears in search engine result pages)
- Assigning related products to a product
- Generating the Buy Button (a product card and checkout that can be placed on an external website using code) if you want to sell that product on a landing page or elsewhere
To edit the product from the eCom Admin Panel:
- Open the eCom Admin Panel by going to Online > Overview > Go to eCom (E-Series).
- Click Catalog in the menu on the left.
- Select the product you want to edit and click Edit Product.
- Make the appropriate edits and Save.
Editing product page URLs
When you add product pages to your eCom store, an SEO-optimized URL is automatically generated for the page, such as www.company.site/products/teapot-637773898
. You can customize these URLs to reflect your product better and make it easier for customers to find online, such as www.company.site/products/flower-teapot
.
- In your eCom Admin Panel, navigate to Catalog > Products.
- Select the product you want to edit.
- In the SEO tab, click Customize product URL.
- Edit the product page URL.
- Save your changes.
The updated URL will go live immediately. The previous URL version will automatically redirect to the product page with no interruptions.
