Benefits of the sell through report

You can use this report to:

  • Track products sold over a period to determine what to order and how often.
  • Identify your best-performing categories, products, and brands.

Understanding the report columns

The report presents information on how much inventory is sold during a specified date range. The columns in this report are:

  • Product category: Lists categories and subcategories. Products without an assigned category are displayed together in the "No product category" group.
  • Closing inventory: Your Inventory at the end of your selected date range. If that is today then it equals your current stock on-hand.
  • Items sold per day: The average daily sales in your selected date range. This lets you look at the rate a specific product has sold in the past. Compare recent spikes in sales or understand how something performed last season. (Items sold / No. of days in selected period = Items sold per day).
  • Sell through rate: This tells you the rate you are selling your inventory. A high sell-through rate means items are selling quickly and might need to be replenished. A low sell-through rate means items are selling slowly.
  • Days cover: This tells you where you might be over or understocked. It looks at your items sold per day and your closing inventory to calculate how many days it will take to sell out.

You can configure the report by changing the metrics for Report typeMeasure, and Date range to best suit your needs.

Using the sell through report

These are some tasks you can accomplish with the sell through report:

Identify how fast your inventory is selling during a time period

View at a glance how quickly your inventory is selling by focusing on the sell through rate and the items sold per day columns. High sell through rates with a high number of items sold per day indicate those products are popular and likely to need restocking more frequently.

You can also choose different date ranges to determine which products sell the quickest during different times of the year.

Use filters to get granular

The report is configured by category by default, meaning you get a high-level perspective of how fast your inventory is selling. You can change the Report type metric to reflect individual products, brands, or suppliers, giving you access to the information you need to make informed decisions at every level. Select the desired metric from the Report type drop down menu and click Search.

Add additional filters to your report by clicking More filters. Here you can include or exclude brands, products, or suppliers to help narrow your report.

Make decisions for future inventory levels

By examining the day's cover column in the More filters section, you can assess how long your inventory will last at the current sell-through rate and determine the optimal time to reorder stock. This insight also aids in deciding whether to relocate inventory between locations to meet demand until the next shipment.
