The 'Open Cash Drawer' option is not appearing in the drop-down in the Retail POS (X-Series) app

Problem

Tapping the drop-down arrow in the top right of the Retail POS app is not showing the option to open the cash drawer.

Setup

  • Retail POS on iPad
  • Cash drawer
  • Receipt printer

Cause

  • User permissions do not allow for opening cash drawer outside of a sale
  • Hardware is not connected 
  • Cash drawer is not enabled 

Solution

User permissions do not allow for opening cash drawer outside of a sale

  • If you are a cashier user, you will not be able to open the cash drawer outside of a sale. 

Hardware is not connected 

  • Tap to open the left hand side menu
  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Hardware
  • If you do not see your printer listed, follow the steps from the Hardware Help Centre to add your printer

Cash drawer is not enabled 

  • Tap to open the left hand side menu
  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Hardware
  • Tap on your printer name
  • Make sure Enable Cash drawer is enabled
