Hi. How can we help?

SKU FAQs

  • What is a SKU?

SKU stands for Stock Keeping Unit, and is the unique identifier for a products stock item.

A SKU can be many things. It can be a code you make up and use yourself, or it could be an existing code belonging to the product already, such as the barcode. Using the product barcode as your SKU makes it really easy to scan and look up products with a barcode scanner in Retail POS. To do this, scan the barcode when on the Retail POS sell screen, and the product will automatically be added to the sale.

SKUs can only have letters, numbers and ".", "-", "_" and "/" characters. If you notice SKUs aren't scanning or importing correctly, check to make sure they're only made up of numbers and letters and do not contain any symbols such as commas.

  • How are SKUs generated in Retail POS (X-Series)?

    Question

If I choose to automatically generate a SKU, how is the SKU generated?

    Setup

    • Retail POS for Mac or PC
    • Retail POS on iPad

    Answer

If you choose to automatically generate a SKU, it will be given a five digit SKU starting at '10000' and Retail POS will count up by 1 for every new SKU that is generated. The sequence number can be changed in the General Setup.

    Setup

    Setup

    • Retail POS for Mac or PC
    • Retail POS for iPad
