Yes! You can use a barcode scanner alongside the Scanner app.

Connected through Bluetooth to your smartphone or iPad, a Socket mobile barcode scanner can be used with the Scanner app. To connect it, tap on the name located top corner left of the Scanner app leading you to the Account page. Toggle on Enable Bluetooth scanning, tap Pair a socket scanner, and follow the wizard instructions. 

The Scanner app can also be installed on any Zebra mobile computer having a built-in scanner to scan barcodes and count inventory through the app.

The Scanner app turns your phone into a scanner for the purpose of an inventory count by using the camera on your device.
