How to pair your Clover Flex with Retail POS (X-Series)

Only the 1st and 2nd generation Clover Flex terminals are compatible with Retail POS.


  • Retail POS for Mac or PC
  • Retail POS on iPad
  • Clover Mini payment terminal (1st or 2nd generation)


To create a payment type in Retail POS:

  1. Navigate to Setup Payment types.
  2. Click Add payment type.
  3. Select Payment gateway.


  4. Click Begin setup.
  5. Enter a name for the payment type. 
  6. Click Save payment type.

To get the terminal ready to pair:

  1. Connect the terminal to power.
  2. Turn the terminal on.
  3. Connect the terminal to your network using a Wifi a connection.
  4. The terminal will begin the setup if this is the first time activating your device. Complete this process before proceeding.

To download and Install the eConduit App:

  1. Sign into your Clover account using your admin user credentials.
  2. Access the Clover Marketplace.
  3. Sign in and search for eConduit or access the More Tools on the Mini terminal and search for eConduit.
  4. Select Connect and Accept.
  5. Press the eConduit app icon on the Clover Mini.
  6. If successful the app will state "Connected".
  7. The eConduit app needs to always be running in the background to accept payments through Retail POS.

To connect the terminal to Retail POS:

  1. Click the Payment Gateway payment type that was just created.
  2. Click Pair a Terminal.


  3. Select the register you wish to pair with and enter the terminal serial number. For instructions on how to locate your serial number, refer to our How to check the serial number of Clover terminal guide.


  4. Click Pair register.
  5. Click Save payment type.
  6. Repeat the process for each terminal you need to connect.

Additional Information

  • Each terminal can only be paired with one Retail POS Register at a time, however multiple payment terminals can be paired under a single payment type.
  • When installing the eConduit application, the Clover device will automatically install (if not already installed) either the Cloud pay display or Secure Network pay display app. These are required to display the transaction prompts to the consumer on the Clover device.  You can confirm the installation by viewing your installed apps on the Clover device menu screen.
